The picturesque village of Šmartno is a true gem of Medieval architecture, which thanks to a skillful renovation, even today transmits all the magic through its ancient stones. It is surrounded by severe walls with five well-preserved fortified towers. From the village you can enjoy a wonderful view on the entire Brda region. During the Medieval period it was a strategic military fortress on the Venetian-Austrian border, and today is one of the most beautiful cultural monuments of Slovenia – thanks to an excellent conservation and many original details.
