THE ISLE OF CONA’S RESERVE

The Reserve along the Isonzo mouth, consisting of fresh water swamps, extensive wetlands, rushes, woods and prairies, is such as to be the ideal habitat for many animal species, particularly birds, both resident and migratory.

The zone has been acknowledged among the best birdwatching areas in Italy. The Isle of Cona, which houses the Visitors’ Centre, is one of among the most interesting didactical, scientific and naturalistic sites internationally. The integrity of the area, ensured by continual environmental interventions, is also entrusted to the animals themselves, such as the Camargue horses, who live free in the Reserve and contribute to the development of the prairies.
